Amish Sugar Cookies Recipe

3 c sugar
2 c Crisco
4 eggs
2 c milk
1 Tbsp pure vanilla (or 2 of imitation)
4 tsp baking powder
3 tsp baking soda
8 c flour
½ tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Beat sugar, Crisco, and eggs until fluffy. Alternate milk and dry ingredients with top mixture and then add vanilla. Drop by tablespoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 325º for 12-15 min or done by touching top. You can sprinkle colored sugar on top of cookies before baking them or ice them after baking.

Uncle Jeff had a good friend that he spent a lot of time with. When they would be at his friend’s house, his friend’s Mom always made these cookies. Jeff liked the cookies so much that he had Grandma call her (Aunt Verla thinks her name was Mrs. Wagler) to get the recipe.

Grandma then started making the soft Amish Sugar cookies for Uncle Jeff and then her Grandchildren. I know she always would make them for special occasions like Christmas and even mailed them to Tracey & Brian when they were young since they lived out of state.
