2 Tbsp butter or margarine
½ c diced onion
¼ c diced green pepper
1 lb ground beef
1 can tomatoes
1 tsp salt
½ tsp sugar
¼ tsp thyme
1 small bay leaf
1⅓ c precooked rice

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in skillet, medium heat. Add onion, green pepper and ground beef. Cook, stirring often, until meat is browned. If a large amount of fat cooks out, spoon out excess. Drain tomatoes, measuring juice. Add water to juice to make 1½ cups. Add the liquid, tomatoes, salt, sugar, thyme, and bay leaf (whole) to mixture in the skillet. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Then stir in rice, cover and simmer 5 minutes longer. Discard bay leaf before serving.
