1 cup sifted flour
tsp. baking powder
⅛ tsp. soda
tsp. salt
cup chopped nuts
⅓ cup butter or shortening
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
I egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
pkg. chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour
measure, add baking powder, soda and salt
sift again
Add nuts and mix.
Melt butter in sauce pan; remove from heat.
Mix in sugar (Add 1 Tbsp. hot water if vegetable shortening is used.) Cool.
Stir in egg and vanilla.
Add flour mixture, a little at a time, mixing well.
Spread in greased 9"x9" pan.
Sprinkle chocolate chips over top.
Bake at 350 F for 20-25 minutes.
Cool in pan.
Cut in 24 squares while still warm.
