Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 lb package dried split peas
4 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth) if you like a thicker soup, use a little less broth
1 Tbl Better Than Boullion Chicken Base (found in the bouillon section)
2 bay leaf
1 pkg Knorr dried spring vegetable soup mix (1.4 oz)
1 to 2 ham hocks or 1 meaty hambone
1 carrot, sliced or diced

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse and sort the peas.

Place all the ingredients in a crock pot and cook until peas are tender. (cook on low 5-6 hours)

Remove bay leaf and bones.

Remove meat from bones and return to soup.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Make several batches of the dry ingredients and store in the pantry for future use. Use 1 or 2 dried bouillon cubes in place of the bouillon base. Store the dried peas separately so they can be rinsed.

This can be doubled or made vegetarian by omitting ham.
