C Shortening
1 C Firmly-packed Brown Sugar
C Granulated Sugar
1 Egg
C Water
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Salt
tsp. Baking Soda
3 C Oats, uncooked
1 C Flour

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F.

Beat shortening, sugar, egg, water and vanilla together until creamy. Sift flour, salt and baking soda together. Add to creamed mixture; blend well. Stir in oats.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

For variety, add chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate chips or coconut.
