1 cup butter
4 ounces of unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sugar
4 eggs (at room temperature)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
teaspoon salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:

Preheat over to 350F and grease a 9x13" pan. Melt butter and chocolate over low heat stirring constantly. Remove pan from heat and stir in sugar. Allow mixture to cool for about 10 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating with spoon until well blended after addition of each egg. Add flour, vanilla, and salt and stir well. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if adding). Pour mixture into the greased baking pan and bake in oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Brownies are done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack prior to slicing and serving.
