2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons light brown sugar
1 garlic clove, minced
½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger
⅛ teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 pound asparagus, trimmed
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
Salt and pepper
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted

1. Whisk soy sauce, vegetable oil, sugar, garlic, ginger, and pepper flakes in shallow dish. Add asparagus and toss until well coated. Let marinate at room temperature for at least 15 minutes or up to 1 hour.

2. Remove asparagus from dish (do not discard marinade) and grill over hot fire, turning frequently, until tender an lightly charred, 4 to 8 minutes.

3. Add grilled asparagus to dish with reserved marinade. Add sesame oil and toss until asparagus is well coated. Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve.
