2/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. orange peel (optional)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
4 tsps. milk
2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsps. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar, orange peel, and vanilla.

Add egg and beat till light and fluffy. Stir in milk. Sift dry ingredients; blend in creamed mixture.

Divide dough in half. Chill 1 hour. On lightly floured surface roll to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut in desired shapes.

Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 for 6 to 8 minutes. Cool slightly and remove from pan.
