Ingredients:  
1-1/2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
1/3 cup molasses
1 egg
2-1/4 cups whole wheat flour (I use 2-1/2) 2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ground ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Mix ingredients in usual order. Roll out into shapes or balls. Bake at 350 for 6-10 minutes depending on if they are balls or rolled out.

Grandma used to use this recipe and then switched to boxed mix. I don't think she ever used whole wheat flour but I found this to be the best recipe, especially for gingerbread houses.
