The Mashed potato topping:
4 lbs Yukon gold potatoes, boiled till done. Add 1.½ sticks of butter (12 oz), 1.½ cups milk, salt and pepper and grated sharp white cheddar cheese (optional).
The Meat mixture under the mashed potatoes:
2 lbs. ground beef; 2 grated onions; 1 Tbs garlic powder; 1 Tablespoon thyme (chopped fresh or dried); 1 pound bag frozen peas; 1.½ c. beef stock; salt and pepper; 3 Tbs Worcestershire sauce.

Mash the cooked potatoes in large bowl. Add melted butter and milk (mixed together), salt and pepper, and cheese if desired. Saute ground beef with onion in a little oil. When cooked, add all the other ingredients, place mixture in bottom of casserole dish, and add mashed potato mixture on top, then bake 30 minutes at 350.

This has always been a favorite around our home. The thyme makes it so flavorful. You may also add mushrooms to the meat mixture, slice and saute' with meat mixture.
