Chicken (chop pieces smaller to cook faster)
Onion, carrots, celery, etc. chop into pieces.
Water (Chicken broth adds flavor.)
Salt and pepper to taste.
Frozen mixed vegetables

Dumplings (Bisquick has a recipe on box that can be used.)

1 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup milk
3 T. oil

In 4 qt. saucepan, add chicken pieces and vegetables and cover with water. Add salt and pepper to taste. (Other herbs can be added.) Chicken broth or bouillon adds more flavor, if desired. Let gently boil until chicken is done and vegetables tender. Frozen mixed vegetables can be added last 5 minutes before adding dumplings, if used.

Dumplings

Sift together dry ingredients. Add milk and oil and stir only until blended. Drop by spoonful onto gently boiling meat and vegetables. Cook 10 minutes with pan uncovered and then cover with lid for 10 minutes. Serve.

My mom, Ione, made chicken soup and we usually had it this way. We kids loved the fluffy dumplings, and Elizabeth, my sister, and I still make this recipe!
