3 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cold water
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon clear vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cook sugar, syrup,and water until it forms a soft ball stage when tried in cold water. Beat the egg whites until stiff and pour half the syrup slowly over beaten egg whites 9electric mixer works best. Continue beating while cooking the other half of syrup untilmat Hard ball stage. Add this to the syrup mixture already in mixer bowl. Continue beating until stiff enough to pour in buttered pan or drop by teaspoons on wax paper. Can add chopped nuts if desired.

A Christmas tradition made by both Grandma Chapman and mom. Both always said it would only turn out if you made it on a sunny day. If it was cloudy or snowing, the humidity would keep it from getting firm. I continue to make this the same way and it’s won several blue ribbons at the fair. Greg is at Grandma’s house in the picture.
