2 cups plus 2 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together dry ingredients
Beat shortening, milk, vanilla, add eggs
Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Bake at 350 until done

One of the first cakes I remember making on my own. Mom and Dad are in the picture. Dad wrote in his journal “ we got television in 1948-a black and white, there were no color sets. The first thing I remember watching were the Friday Night Pabst Blue Ribbon boxing matches.up until then we listened to radio programs, like The Lone Ranger, The Shadow, Fibber MeGee and Molly and the Green Hornet”
