½ cup sugar
¼ cup shortening
1 egg
1 cup flour
½ cup milk
½tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup blueberries or raspberries
Sauce
1 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. flour
1 Tbsp. vinegar
½ cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the first 8 ingredients in order given, but put salt and baking powder in the flour.
Put above in 8 x 8-inch greased and floured pan and bake at 375ºF for 30 minutes.
For the sauce:
Stir the butter and flour together until melted. Add the other ingrediants. Cook and stir until boiling. Put some hot sauce over each individual serving.

The recipe is from my dad`s grandmother. We have this every year at our family summer cottage in Alton BAy, NH on Lake Winniepesaukee.
