6-8 potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1-2 sticks of butter
1/2 cup flour approx.
1-2 lbs. shredded mild cheddar
1/2c- 1cup scalded whole milk
seasoned bread crumbs

Ceramic baking dish

Directions:
Spray ceramic baking dish liberally with Pam. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Start base layer in the bottom of a ceramic baking dish.Base layer is 4T (dabs) of butter, then sprinkle flour. Sliced potato layer. Sprinkle 4oz cheese. Sprinkle salt and pepper.

Repeat layer until 2" from top of baking dish.

Pour scaled milk over layers. Sprinkle seasoned breads crumbs on top and a few dabs of butter.

Bake for 1 hour or until potatoes are fork tender and sauce is bubbly.

Mom made great au gratin potatoes but the secret was the old-fashioned ceramic baking dish. Her baking dish was rounded with a brown glaze.
