¾ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
¼ cup molasses
1 egg
2½ cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ginger
½ tsp salt
½ tsp ground cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar; add molasses and egg and beat well. Mix flour, soda, cinnamon, ginger, salt and cloves together. Add to creamed mixture; cover and chill overnight. Form dough into 1½-inch balls. Roll in sugar and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at almost 400º for 8 to 10 minutes. Allow to cool 5 minutes before removing from pan.
