1 c. butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ c. sugar
3 eggs
3 ½ c. sifted all purpose flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Cream butter and vanilla. Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each. Sift dry ingredients together. Add gradually to creamed mixture. Chill thoroughly. Roll on well-floured surface. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. May add colored sprinkles before baking if desired. Use cream, powdered sugar, and a little vanilla for frosting. Spoon frosting into several bowls and add food coloring for desired colors. Can spread with a knife or put in piping bags to decorate.
