4 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup white karo
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons sugar
1 1/4 cups crisco
2 eggs
2 1/2 Tablespoons water
4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Melt chocolate over hot water in top of double boiler (or melt in microwave). Remove from heat. Cream
crisco; gradually add 2 cups sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add melted chocolate, eggs, karo, water and flavoring. Mix well. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture; beating just until blended. Shape into 1" balls and roll in 1/4 cup sugar plus 2 Tablespoons sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet 5 minutes. Remove to wire rack and cool completely. Makes 10 1/2 dozen cookies.
