2 cups dry white beans
5 cups water
1 small onion chopped
1½ teaspoon salt
¼ pound fat bacon or pork
¼ cup light molasses or 1/8 th cup cooking molasses
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard
¼ cup catsup

Directions:
Directions:

Mix beans , onions, salt, water and pork. Boil until beans are tender and drain.
Reserve 1 cup water.
To the cup of water add molasses, catsup, brown sugar, and mustard.
Add beans and simmer for 30 minutes.

Personal Notes:
If you have cooked a ham can cook the beans in the water used to boil the ham and omit the bacon and salt.
Boil the ham bone with a carrot and onion for 2 hours. Then use the liquid instead of the bean water.
Once beans are partially cooked and proceed as described and cook for several hours in a crock pot.
Can substitute chili sauce for catsup.
