Muffins:
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2 Tablespoons plain flour
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup buttermilk

Orange Glaze:
1/2 cup sugar
About 1/3 cup orange juice
Grated rind of 1/2 orange

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates and pecans with the 2 Tablespoons of flour. Set aside. Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Stir in reserved dates and pecans. (Batter will be very thick.) Fill greased muffin tins 1/2 full. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes or until done. Place cake racks on waxed paper. Remove muffins from pan; place on racks and spoon Orange Glaze over hot muffins.

Orange Glaze:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
