Directions:Combine all ingredients in a medium pot and set on stove at medium heat, stir until all ingredients have dissolved. Continue stirring until mixture begins to thicken. Once mixture thickens transfers to a large bowl. Cover with a damp tea towel/cloth until the clay has cooled sufficiently to work with. Begin kneading dough until it reaches a nice smooth, soft texture. If you find that the mixture is a bit dry add a few drops of water {careful not too add to much}, re-knead until smooth. Roll your dough out to approx. 1/4″, slightly thinner would be fine. Cut into your desired shapes. Optionally stamp images with or without ink, texturize with fabrics, textured papers/old greeting cards etc, organic material {leaves/flowers}, fingerprints … ideas are endless. Make sure to add your holes at this point with toothpicks, straws or chopsticks. Transfer your finished creations to a baking sheet and pop them in a pre-heated oven. Bake at 175° degrees F for about 1.25 hours, then flip and continue for about another 45 minutes. Remove from oven. Let cool, then gently file down any rough edges. These ornaments will look beautiful as they are but you can paint them, add glitter, write on them with Sharpies, add details with nail polish then when your done, you can just leave them as is or finish them with a little varnish to protect them and give them a bit of shine. For this you could use, a clear nail polish, Modge Podge or try a spray varnish such as, Krylon Crystal Clear Varnish Spray. |
