1 cup sugar
1 tbsp. ginger
2 tsp. each cinnamon and cloves
½ cup water
½ cup dark corn syrup
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
4 cups flour, mixed with
1½ tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
In small saucepan, bring to a boil sugar, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, water and corn syrup. Remove from heat. Pour over butter in a large bowl; stir until butter melts, then cool to lukewarm. Stir in flour mixed with baking soda. Mix well, cover and chill overnight.

Let dough soften slightly at room temperature. Divide in fourths on lightly floured surface. Roll out to ⅛ inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter, rerolling scraps.

Bake on an engrossed cookie sheet at 375º F for 12 to 15 minutes.
