Cake:
2 cups sugar
½ cup shortening
3 tablespoons Hersey's cocoa
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup buttermilk
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup boiling water
Icing:
2 cups sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon flour
¾ cup sweet milk
2 teaspoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add cocoa, eggs, vanilla and buttermilk and mix well. Stir baking soda into boiling water. Add flour and boiling water alternately to chocolate mixture.

Pour into 9x13 pan and bake at 350º for 45 minutes.

Note: Do not shake cake in the oven. It falls very easily. I speak from experience.

Icing: Mix sugar, cocoa, flour and milk. Boil on stovetop until it reaches the soft ball stage when tested in cold water. Remove from head and add butter and vanilla. Beat until mixture cools and begins to thicken. Pour on top of cake and spread to the edges. Enjoy!
