3 1/2 Cups Sifted Cake Flour
21/1 tsps. Baking Powder
1 tsp. Baking Soda
2 tsps. Salt
3/4 Cup Cocoa
1 1/3 Cups Butter, softened
3 Cups Sugar
4 Eggs
2 Cups Buttermilk
2 tsps. Vanilla
Frosting:1 1/2 Dups Sugar
1/2 Cup cream of evaporated milk
1 egg
pinch of salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
3 squares unsweetened baking chocolate
2 TBSPS. Butter softened

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottoms of two 10 inch square cake pans and line with parchment paper. Grease the tops of the papers and the sides of the pans. Flour lightly
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cocoa, set aside.
Cream the butter with an electric beater and gradually add the sugar. Beat for 2 minutes or until fluffy. Add eggs, unbeaten and beat again for 2 minutes. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk, add vanilla. mix ingredients then pour batter into prepared baking pans and bake for 1 hour or until the edges of the cake are lightly browned and begin to pull away slightly from the sides of the pan. Remove from pans and cool. Peel off the parchment paper. Frost Cake.

To Make frosting: in a deep saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, cream, eff, salt and vanilla. Bring to a boil, stirring and cook for 7 minutes. Remove from heat. add chocolate and butter, Beat to a spreading consistency. Frost cake

This cake was a favorite of The Courier Journal's food editor Cissy Gregg, she always talked about how her kids couldn't stay out of this cake and they would lick the platter clean, it was that good she would print in the paper.
