1 package yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 pint warm water
3 cups flour

½ cup sugar
2 beaten eggs
½ cup milk
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins

Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water with sugar. Add 3 cups flour and beat well. Cover and let rise about 2 hours. Mix ½ cup sugar, 2 eggs, milk, melted butter, salt and raisins. Add to yeast mixture. Add enough flour to make a medium stiff dough (about 4 ½ cups total). Cover and let rise about 2 to 3 hours. Work down and divide into three equal portions. Roll out each to about ¼ inch thickness. Brush liberally with melted butter. Sprinkle with sugar and lots of cinnamon. Roll up like a jelly roll. Place seam side down on cookie sheet, brush top with additional melted butter. Cover and let rise about 2½ hours. Bake at 350º for 25 to 30 minutes. Do not over bake.

Top with an icing mixture of milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Stores well in the freezer.

Do not rush letting the dough to rise. It truly will take all day.

One of our favorite things about visiting Annie was eating her coffee cake for breakfast. She definitely had the touch working with yeast dough. She also made the most beautiful rings out of this dough and decorated them at Christmas. Once the dough looks like a jelly roll, you may cut it about an inch thick, place cut side up (spiral view) in a 9x13 pan, leaving space between each roll and have individual cinnamon rolls to bake rather than the jelly roll.
