1 1/2 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk, reserve white
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon maple flavoring if desired



Directions:
Directions:
Sift together the flour, salt and soda. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and egg yolk, beat well. Add dry ingredients gradually, mix thoroughly, chill if desired.
Arrange split pecan halves in groups of three or fives on greased baking sheet to resemble head and legs of a turtle.
Mold dough into balls--dip bottoms in to unbeaten egg white and press lightly on nuts. Use a rounded teaspoon full of dough on each so tips of nuts will show. Bake at 350 deg. for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool and frost generously -Chocolate preferred.
