1 c butter
4 T powdered sugar
1 t vanilla
2 c sifted flour
1 c chopped pecans

Directions:

Cream butter, add sugar and continue to beat until light. Add vanilla. Add sifted flour, mix well, and fold in chopped nuts. Roll into small balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350º oven for 20 minutes. Roll in powdered sugar while still hot. Makes 72.

This is the famous butter ball recipe that Mom made every year for Christmas with Dad. She had a hard time making them after he died because the batter was so thick and hard to manage by herself. However, the cookies are so much more tender if not beaten too long. Mom and Dad made a great baking and cooking pair. Robert and Mike always called them "doughnuts" because to them, the cookies looked like doughnut holes.
