1 1/2 Cup large seeded raisins
1 1/2 Cup dates
2 Cups sugar
2 Cups boiling water
5 Tbsp. shortening
3 Cups flour
1 Tsp. soda
2 Tsp. cinnamon
1 Tsp. cloves
1 Tsp. salt
1 Cup chopped nuts


Directions:
Directions:
Place the raisins, dates, sugar, water and shortening in a saucepan and simmer gently for 20 min. Cool.
Sift flour once before measuring, then sift flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt together. Add a little flour to the first mixture, then add to the dry ingredients. Pour into well greased and floured pans. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325 deg. oven.
Mary says: "I use Pam and bake the cake in a bundt pan. I have used this recipe for over 50 years and I know it is good.

This was one of my mother's and our family's favorite Christmas recipes. It's not like traditional candied fruitcake. We try to bake them in November and let them age till December. All the Loran kids like this cake. Agnes Loran
