1 cup All Bran
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
1/2 cup raisins
1 tbsp. molasses
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
1. Combine all bran, buttermilk, raisins, molasses and sugar into mixing bowl.
2. Sift flour with soda & salt and add to first mixture, stirring until flour disappears.
3. Pour batter into greased *can; cover tightly and steam for 3 hours.

* Mary Helen used an empty Maxwell House or Folgers coffee can.

This is Mary Helen's recipe which I believe was her mother's. Like Grandma Ginther, Mom always made brown bread to go with her Boston baked beans. Homemade brown bread was a hit in our family!
