Chocolate Covered Cherries Recipe

2 large jars maraschino cherries with stems
3 T. butter
3 T. light corn syrup
¼ t. salt
2 C. sifted powdered sugar
1 pkg semi sweet chocolate morsels
1 T. shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Drain cherries, rinse, and dry on paper towels over night.

Combine butter, syrup, salt in med mixing bowl. stir well. add powdered sugar. Kneed in bowl until smooth

Shape ½ t. sugar mixture around each cherry. Place on waxed paper lined baking sheet. Chill about 2 hours or until firm.

Combine chocolate and shortening in top of double boiler. bring water to boil, then reduce heat until chocolate melts. Don't heat too fast or it will turn chalky when cooled.

Dip each cherry by stem into chocolate. Place on waxed paper. Chill. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.
