1 cup butter
½ cup brown sugar
2 eggs, separated
2 cups sifted flour
1 cup chopped blanched almonds
Brightly colored jelly or candied fruit

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300º
Grease cookie sheet

Cream butter till soft, then blend in sugar and egg yolks. Beat until light.
Blend in the flour.

Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Dip in egg white and roll in chopped nuts.

Place on cookie sheet and make a depression in the center of each cookie.
Bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven. Press down centers again. Continue baking for 15 minutes.
Cool slightly. Fill centers with jelly or cherries.
