10 Cortland Apples peeled, cored and sliced

mix together

1 C sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg


2 tsp butter

milk for brushing over top crust

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven at 425

Make pie crust and cut in half chill for 15 minutes. Roll dough onto floured surface and put in pie plate. Layer the apples in the pie pan and sprinkle with sugar mixture dot with a little butter.
Place top pie crust over apples. Make 5 vent holes with knife.

Roll the edges of the pie crust under and with a fork dipped in milk press down around the perimeter of the pie. Sprinkle with milk over the top of the pie and with your fingers dot with a little Crisco.

Place pie on the bottom rack in the oven and cook for 50 minutes..

The best apples look for Cortland Apples that have a lot of green (they will be a little tart with a lot of flavor)

Also good is Baldwin Apples

If the apples are on the sweet side use less sugar and add a tsp of lemon juice
