1 c. butter, softened
c. sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. rum flavoring (or 1-2 tsp. rum, to taste)
3 c. flour
1 tsp. nutmeg
tsp. salt

Frosting:
2 c. sifted, powdered sugar
⅓ c. (5⅓ Tbsp.) butter, softened
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. rum flavoring (or 1-2 Tbsp. rum, to taste)
2 Tbsp. heavy cream
nutmeg to garnish

To make cookies:
Preheat oven to 350 F. In bowl of an electric mixer on medium speed, cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat until well-blended. Add vanilla extract and rum flavoring and mix well. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, nutmeg, and salt. Stir flour mixture into butter-egg mixture.
Spoon dough into a cookie press fitted with a small (5/8") star plate. Holding press in an almost horizontal position, form long rolls on parchment paper-lined baking sheets (rolls can be close together, as cookies do not spread when baked). Cut rolls into 3" sticks. Bake 10 minutes. Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool completely before transferring to a wire rack.

To make frosting:
In bowl of an electric mixer on medium speed, cream sugar and butter. Add vanilla extract and rum flavoring and beat until well-blended. Add cream and beat until frosting is light and creamy. Frost each stick and sprinkle with nutmeg.
