½ cup solid shortening
2 one ounce squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup packed brown sugar
½ cup buttermilk
1 egg
1½ tsps vanilla
1½ cups flour
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1 six ounce package semi-sweet chocolate bits
2 Tbsps butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp hot water

Preheat oven to 375º
Greased baking sheet

Melt shortening and one and one-half squares of the unsweetened chocolate together.
Remove from heat and cool.
Add sugar, buttermilk, egg and one teaspoon of the vanilla. Mix well
Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
Add dry ingredients to chocolate mixture and mix well.
Add chocolate bits and mix well.
Drop dough by teaspoonful to baking sheet and bake 10 minuts or until done.

Melt remaining one-half squre chocolate and butter.
Add powdered sugare, hot water and remaining one-half taspoon vanilla, and mix until smooth.

While cookies are still warm, spread with the chocolate glaze.
