½ c crisco
1 ½ c sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cocoa
2 eggs
2 oz. red food color
2 ¼ c. sifted cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Frosting
1 c. milk
4 tbs. wondra flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. crisco
2 tsp. vanilla

PREHEAT OVEN TO 350º
1. Beat the Crisco, sugar, vanilla, salt, cocoa, eggs, and red food color. Use one bottle of food color then fill the bottle with water and add to mixture. Beat continuous while sifting flour and preparing pans
2. Sift cake flour and add alternately with buttermilk to bowl while mixer running
3. Combine soda and vinegar, stir together till it settles and fold in last. Pour into greased and floured pans. Bake 30 minutes.
4. For frosting cook milk and wondra till thick, stirring frequent. Remove from stove and cool
5. Beat together sugar, Crisco and vanilla. Add cooked mixture 1 tbs. at a time and beat on high speed till light and fluffy. Frost when cake cool. Mix 1 ½ time frosting recipe for a layer cake.
