1 cup softened butter
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. rum
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2-3 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
rum-flavored frosting

Directions:
Directions:
1. Cream butter and flavoring; gradually beat in sugar until light. Blend in egg. Sift flour, 1 tsp. nutmeg, and 1/4 tsp. salt; add butter mixture and mix well.
2. Shape pieces of dough on a sugared board into long rolls 1/2 inch in diameter. Cut into 3 inch lengths and put on greased cookie sheets.
3. Bake in preheated moderate oven 350º for 12-15 minutes. Cool.
4. Spread rum-flavored frosting on top and sides of cookies. Makes 5 dozen.

1/2 lb. powdered sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. rum
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/8 cup milk
1/3 stick butter
