½ cup shortening or margarine
½ cup brown sugar
1 egg beaten
1 tsp vanilla
½ cup white sugar
1 cup flour
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
½ cup gumdrops
½ cup walnuts or coconut
1 cup oatmeal

Directions:
Directions:
Beat shortening or margarine until soft.
Gradually add in sugars and vanilla until light and creamy.
In another bowl mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
Sprinkle ¼ of flour mixture over gumdrops, walnuts or coconut and oatmeal.
Beat dry ingredients into butter mixture in about 2 parts, alternating with egg.
Stir in coconut/walnut, gumdrops and oatmeal.
Roll into 1-inch balls.
Flatten with spatula dipped in milk.
Bake at 350ºF for 10 minutes.
