2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp soda in milk
2 tsps baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups flour

FILLING

1 cup figs or dates cut fine
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
2 T cornstarch

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º

FILLING:

Boil filling ingredients until thick. Cool.

Use spoon to put indentation in center of cookie dough. Put filling in and move dough on top.

Bake 15-20 minutes.

NOTE: Recipe could be doubled if too much filling.
