Ingredients:  
Grated rind of 1 orange (2 oranges if a stronger orange flavor is desired)
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar

Combine and boil for 10 minutes. Cool and add juice of 1 orange or 2 and enough milk to equal 1 1/2 cups.

Add:
1 well beaten egg
2 tablespoons melted shortening

Combine with:
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes in 350º oven.
