1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 extra-large egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. Gluten Free all-purpose flour, sifted
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 jar (16 oz.) Gluten Free applesauce
1 c. dates, cut-up
1 c. golden raisins
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped nuts - walnuts or pecans (optional)

Lemon Icing:
4 T. butter or margarine, melted
2 T. lemon juice
2 - 2-1/2 c. powdered sugar, sifted
Few drops of yellow food coloring (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour a 9"x13" baking pan.

Date Bars:
In mixer bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy.
In a separate bowl, sift all dry ingredients together.
Alternate adding dry ingredients and applesauce to creamed mixture; mixing well after each addition.
Stir in date, raisins and nuts.
Pour batter into prepared 9"x13" baking pan; spread mixture evenly.
Bake in 350º oven for 35-40 minutes.
Remove from oven; cool.

Lemon Icing:
In a bowl, combine the butter, lemon juice, powdered sugar and food coloring; stirring until mixture is smooth.
Spread on cooled applesauce bars; cut into bars.
Serve.
