1 cup soft butter
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 1/2 cup sifted all purpose flour

Cream butter until it resembles whipped cream. Add sugar slowly, beating well. Add flour gradually, blending thoroughly,. Wrap in wax paper. Chill several hours. Knead dough slightly on lightly floured board.; form into a smooth ball. Roll to about 1/8-inch thick. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, .Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) approximately 12 minutes. Remove from oven, let stand about 3 minutes before moving to cooling rack. When cold, move to cooling rack. When cold decorate with butter cream frosting.
Yield: 6 to 8 dozen
