1 cup sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
2 Tbsp light Karo syrup
Dash of salt
1 (12 oz) package milk chocolate pieces
2 cups of blanched roasted peanuts*

*Roasted Nuts:
Place nuts into a preheated 300º oven and roast for 20 minutes. At each 5 minute interval, stir nuts. Virginia peanuts will have a slightly raw taste.

Clusters:
Combine sugar, milk, corn syrup and salt in heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil using medium heat (slow cooking is a key to success!), stirring constantly to prevent scorching. When the mixture is bubbly all over (about 180º), continue to cook for two more minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate pieces until melted. Stir in nuts. When the wet look starts to turn dull, drop clusters onto a lightly buttered cookie sheet or on waxed paper. As soon as clusters set up, transfer to a clean dry sheet.

Tip: Use two teaspoons for sizing clusters. ⅔ or ¾ of a teaspoon makes a good sized cluster.

Susy: This recipe was neatly typed on a 3X5 card, with a title "CANDIES I'VE HAD SUCCESS WITH" and ended with "ERC." My dad started making candy after he retired, and he really enjoyed making it and sharing it with others, especially his family!
