3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup chunky applesauce
1 cup sorghum molasses
2-1/2 cup all purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating after each. Add syrup and applesauce, beat well. Combine flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and stir. Pour batter in 3 greased and floured round cake pans. Bake 350 for 20 - 25 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Put on rack and finish cooling. Frost with powdered sugar.
