1¼ c. cake flour
1¼ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tbsp. melted butter (oleo)
½ c. nuts, chopped
2 c. chopped dates
1 tbsp. hot water
powdered sugar (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together dry ingredients.
Add sugar gradually to eggs.
Add butter.
Beat in dates and nuts.
Add flour alternately with hot water, beating after each addition.
Divide mixture into two greased 8"X8"X2" inch pans* and spread batter thin.
Bake in a slow (325º) oven 30-35 minutes.
Cool.
Cut into 2⅔"X1" strips.
Remove from pan and roll in powdered sugar , if you like.

*Gram said, "I usually bake these in a 9"X13"X2" pan and they are great with 1 c. of coconut instead of the nuts."
