1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1-3/4 cups sifted self-rising flour
1/3 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º. Grease and lightly dust with flour an iron skillet 10" round and 2" deep, Cream shortening gradually adding sugar until light & fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating after each. Add flour and milk alternately. Fold in nuts. Pour into pan and top with crumble topping. Make indentations in batter with finger. All way to bottom of skillet, so the topping will bake into cake. Bake 35 minutes. If desired, drizzle with confectioners sugar icing.

Crumble Topping: Combine 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp flour. Mix with fingertip or pastry blender.

Note: if using plain flour, sift 2-1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt with flour.
