1 C soft shortening (at least half of it should be butter)
1 C confectioners sugar
1 egg
2 ½ C flour
1 tsp salt
½ tsp red food color
1½ tsp almond flavor
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine ingredients (except food color) and mix.

Divide dough in half. Tint ½ with the red color.

Make 4 inch long snakes.

Twist a white with a red "snake" into a candy cane shape and place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 9 minutes at 375º.
