1/2 cup margarine (1 stick)
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg beaten
1 cup hot water
2-1/2 cups flour
1 cup molasses
1-1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix butter and sugar then egg. 1 cup hot water put spices in flour mix then add molasses. Mix until smooth. Batter is soft. Bake in greased pan 35 minutes or longer at 325º to 350º oven.

Caramel Sauce
1/2 cup butter and 2 cups sugar - Cook together until very brown. Add 2 cups hot water, let boil until very smooth. Thicken with 2 tbsp flour mixed in 1/2 cup cold water. Stir until smooth.

(Put the 2 tbsp flour in the 1/2 cup cold water and mix well. Then add to other ingredients.)
