2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1/4 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and soda mixture, mix in dry ingredients then add nuts and vanilla
Form into 2 rolls and roll up in wax paper. Refrigerate overnight, Slice into 1/4 slices and bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes.
