1 c. self-rising flour
1 c. self-rising corn meal*
1 c. milk
2 eggs
1/4 c. oil

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Sift flour and corn meal together. In another bowl beat eggs, oil and milk together well. Combined flour and corn meal with egg mixture; blending well. Pour into hot oiled 8"-10" cast iron skillet. Bake until golden brown and done in the center.

*If you don’t have self-rising corn meal add 3/4 tsp baking powder. When I don’t need a whole pone I make half the amount and make pancakes.
At any given time you could go over to my Maw Maw Achord's house and find a pone on cornbread on or near the stove. I don't think there was a day when my Paw Paw didn't eat either rice or cornbread and buttermilk. It was a staple in their house when I was growing up.
