1-1/2 cups of packed brown sugar
3/4 cup of butter or shortening
1/3 cup molasses
1 egg
2-1/4 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1-1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
granulated sugar for dusting

Preheat oven to 325º

In large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until fluffy-ish. Add molasses and egg. Add remaining ingredients. Beat with mixer until well combined. Slowly beat in flour. Add raisins and beat slowly for a minute.

Drop by rounded tablespoon on cookie sheet. Shape into 1-1/2" balls. I use a medium sized ice cream scoop. Dip tops of cookies in sugar. Place balls, sugar side up about 2" apart.

Bake 15 - 20 minutes or until cookies appear dry. Let cook a bit and put on cooling racks.
